A Visit to Judy in Singapore!

Image
I landed in Singapore on Wednesday afternoon and took the metro to Judy's apartment. The transport system was super easy to use and much nicer than in London. You are not allowed to eat (or drink Durian) on the MRT, so it was super clean, and the air conditioning was incredible. Everywhere in Singapore has fantastic air conditioning.  At Judy's house, I dropped off my stuff, showered and then walked to a Hawker Centre near hers in  Chinatown . A Hawker Centre is a large food court with various food stalls which are reasonably priced. We got some dumplings, baos, tom yum fried rice, spring rolls, and a Singapore white carrot cake, a fried radish dish; it was delicious! It was so nice to eat food that was actually spicy for a change! After dinner, we wandered around Chinatown and headed to a bar called  Coq & Balls  for cocktails; I could not get over the prices! $20 (Singapore dollars are almost the same as Canadian) for a cocktail, and Judy said those were some o...

A Little Piece of Heaven - Railay Beach, Krabi, Thailand

Image
I spent one night at a hostel called  Pak-Up  in  Krabi . It seemed like a fun/nice hostel, but I didn't spend much time at it. After checking in, I dropped off my things and wandered around a night market. I got some delicious coconut milk ice cream and a necklace. I went to bed early and had a fantastic sleep; the bed was so comfy! In the morning, I headed to the pier and made the half-hour journey over to  Railay Beach . It is not technically an island, but it sure feels like one! It is a small peninsula between Krabi and Ao Nang. It is accessible only by boat due to limestone cliffs that cut off mainland access. It was one of my favourite places; it had such a chill vibe and was surrounded by beaches, jungle, and stunning cliffs! When I arrived, I dropped my bag off at the hostel and walked around. I walked to  Phra Nang Cave Beach  (the most stunning place ever). I saw the  Princess Cave  and  Shrine , full of various phallic-shaped obje...

A Relaxing Weekend in Phuket, Thailand

Image
I landed in Phuket and headed to the hotel to meet Judy for the weekend. We decided to treat ourselves and stay at a nice hotel instead of a hostel. At this point in my trip, I needed some space to myself! We stayed at the  Chanalai Flora Resort  in the  Kata Beach  area, which was nice and at a great price! Kata Beach is the more family-friendly area in Phuket, while  Patong Beach  is the wild party part. On arrival, I was given a welcome snack and drink, which was super fancy. I then watched as a tiny Thai man struggled to carry my big backpack to my room, haha! While waiting for Judy, I enjoyed having the space and the best shower ever. We settled and went out for dinner at  KIRI Burger & Bowl  when she arrived. I had a delicious Panang Curry. After dinner, we wandered around some night markets, and Judy made me try the smelly fruit Durian - I thought it tasted like a mango that had gone bad. We found a bar with live music, enjoyed some coc...

Water Fights and Elephants - Chiang Mai, Thailand

Image
I took the 12-hour overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to  Chiang Mai . It was a great way to travel. I left Bangkok around 8:30 pm and got into my top bunk, which was pretty nice. However, a bit tiny (I recommend a bottom bunk to anyone that ever decides to travel this way, as they have more room). It was also weird on the top because I could feel the train's movement, but I couldn't see out of the window - thank god I don't get motion sick. I read, hung out for a bit, and then went to sleep. I wore a sleeping mask because it was bright, and I had my AirPods in with some background rain music to block out any noise and had a decent sleep.  We arrived in Chiang Mai around 8:30 in the morning. I grabbed my favourite 7-11 toastie and dropped my stuff off at the hostel.  After dropping off my stuff, I met up with a random girl through the Hostelworld chat. We got a taxi for the hour and a half drive to the  Phu Chetsi National Park  to see the  Bua Tong Water...
