March Madness
Ella and I spent a lovely Sunday on an Afternoon Tea Thames River Cruise. It was such a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, I felt so fancy! Once seated, we were given the option of tea or coffee which was then constantly refilled throughout the duration of the cruise. We were then brought a lovely tower of sandwiches, cakes, and scones with jam and clotted cream. The food was delicious, the views were stunning, the company was lovely and the all round vibes were peaceful.
For Camilo’s birthday we headed to Platform in Shoreditch. It was a great way to spend a few hours. We got some tasty pizza and played Mario Kart. It was really good wholesome fun but I couldn’t stop thinking ‘I could do this back at home at my house for free!’ After my friends headed out to a pub, but I headed home as I wasn’t feeling good.
Have you ever been deathly ill from a stomach bug and then realized that you have head lice? Talk about a terrible day, I ended up being pretty sick for about 2 weeks from an infectious stomach bug from Morocco. While dealing with the stomach bug and having no energy, I somehow had to deal with head lice. Though I could barely get out of bed, I had to treat my hair and comb through my head thoroughly many times, it took hours! Thank god Jin is an amazing friend/roomie that helped me out. I'm still not 100% sure they are gone, gross!!
There have been a lot of teaching strikes this month. Since I'm not part of a union here, I still went into work. Our school was closed to most of the kids other than Year 6 and vulnerable children. I did some prep work and helped out in Year 6. On one of the days, a few of us went to High Fry Fish Bar in Leyton, I had fish and chips for the first time since being in the UK and I have to say it was quite delicious! For World Book Day, the Year 3 team dressed up as characters from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Stephen was Willy Wonka and Beth, Pippa, and I were Oompa Loompas. Unfortunately, we didn't get a group photo. We celebrated Founders day (the day our school trust was founded) by hosting a dance-a-thon. Tara, another teacher, and myself ended up doing the Cadillac Ranch for about 6 hours straight (minus a one hour break for lunch). I don't know if i have ever been that tired in my life... I'm also not sure I ever want to hear that song again. Our school raised over £2100 for the Turkey/Syria earthquake appeal though (last year they raised £400 on Founders day).
Jin and I stumbled upon an lovely Saturday market called Canopy Market in Granary Square. We then visited an adorable little book shop called Word on the Water. It is a bookshop on a boat on Regents canal at King's Cross. It had a lot of classical/political literature, but overall it was a super cute bookshop.
Some friends and I had another wonderful Friday night movie night at Kat and Camilo's. We ate charcuterie, cuddled with Stormy, and watched the Breakfast Club. I had a few other movie nights with Tori and Jin and Frances.
Tara, Jin, Kat and I went to the Breakfast Club Soho for brunch. It was a lovely way to start a Sunday. The vibe of the restaurant is super cute and the food was tasty! Kristina, and I went to the George & Vulture in Shoreditch for their delicious 2-4-1 pizza deal. They make amazing wood fired pizza on Monday nights and the price is incredible!
